I didn’t say don’t vote, I’m saying I’m sick of all the stupid liberal arguments about why to vote or not to vote. I’m going to vote. Nevertheless, I am aware that my voting is not the kind of thing I’d call activism.
I don’t want Mitt Romney to win Colorado. If I do vote for Obama, does that mean I’ve done anything other than vote for Obama? No. It doesn’t mean I support him; it doesn’t mean I support US policies. If I vote for a candidate other than the Republican or Democrat, does it mean I’ve “wasted” my vote? No. It doesn’t. And it’s also true that if I don’t vote, all I’ve done is not to vote. That’s all.
I want people to stop talking about the election as if it’s going to change something. That discourse is a rejection of useful activism and to embrace the status quo.
